disappointed - Mar 18, 2010
My daughter received this toy for Christmas. Because of it price it was her big present. The toy did not last until the end of the Christmas break. The canopy snapped off and was unable to be repaired. My daughter is four and very careful with her toys. The design of the canopy makes it very difficult to close for small hands. It also does not have any supports to hold it up therefore it sags. I would not recommend that anyone buy this toy. It will be a disappointment to your child.
4 Year old LOVES! - Jan 11, 2010
My 4 year old loves this product... there are little pieces, but it is teaches her to pick her stuff up after she is done playing with it. Great Product Barbie :)
The best Barbie van - Jan 10, 2010
My kid gave me the title for this note. I like it because it closes up easily at pick up time and one can drop in all one's Barbie stuff inside.
Girls loved it - Jan 09, 2010
The kids really enjoyed the camper. Arrived wrapped in toilet-paper thin paper that was ripped, so not much of a surprise.
Very disappointed - Jan 07, 2010
All my 8 twin girls wanted for Christmas was this camper. I searched and searched for it and eventually paid an outrageous price for it. It was all worth it though to see their faces on Christmas morning when they saw it under the tree. However, the joy was short lived as the camper was a huge disappointment. It is SO cheaply made, the wheels don't roll so it has to be dragged across the floor. It doesn't close properly so it opens when you move it and all the teeny tiny pieces fall all over the floor. My girls played with it for half an hour but got so frustrated with it they put it aside and it remains in the place they left it on Christmas morning. I know they are so disappointed with this cheap product but it's nothing compared to the disappointment I feel. Mattel should be ashamed of itself. It's the same with the barbies - the legs, arms, heads fall off in no time. They also got one of the 3 musketeers barbies and the wand broke taking it out of the package!! Step up Mattel - think of the children!!
A nice idea but the original was better - Jan 03, 2010
My 6 year old wanted the Barbie camper because she plays with my old one when she visits her grandma. I thought it would be a nice addition and although she is happy to have it and likes the fact it has sounds, she was complaining in the first 5 minutes that the wheels don't work. Who designed a Barbie camper where the wheels aren't low enough to really roll across the floor (carpet or hard flooring)? And I agree with the other comments that the sides don't stay shut when you try to move it and the only storage space for the utensils/plates flies open all the time. It really is cheaply made. I think Mattel needs to do some serious design and quality control with its manufacturing plants. We also have the Barbie with the hair coloring and it is horrible quality. My girls still love to play with them and some of them are good like the John Deere Barbie...and I will say the Diamond Castle was well done when we bought that but the products are not consistently good like they were years ago.
Great for a 5 year old girl... - Jan 03, 2010
So because this is a Barbie toy, we all know there is "no educational benefits". Having said that, my daughter can play for hours with this, AND she shares with her friends. This toy does encourage socializing with other kids, through pretend play. It is what she begged for, which is why she got it, but it feels flimsy, and will likely break within months. Be careful, it does come with 30 very small parts, and if you have a younger child and/or pets that like to chew you will want to keep a close eye on those parts. In a nutshell, it made my daughter happy, and that is its redeeming quality.
Whatever happened to the idea of a vehicle that moves? - Dec 31, 2009
Does she love it? yes. Easy to assemble? yes. Does it really roll? Well, uh, yes and no. My complaint is that it rolls as long as you don't have carpet/ area rug to push it on. It's a low- rider. And the side panel that opens out will not completely shut (opposite the 'tent' pop-out), therefore, it comes apart while the child drags it across the floor. So, I had to teach her to push it while holding that panel closed- sort of hard for a 5 year-old to do consistantly. I had Barbie and her accessories as a child and my complaint on the whole to Mattel would be- Why can't you make'em like you did 30 years ago? The quality with all the 'new' Barbie items just isn't there. My best advise is to spend your $70 bucks at EBAY on the 1972 version of this.
Great and fun - Dec 29, 2009
My 4 y.o. got this for Xmas. She wanted a Barbie house but space wise and financially i couldn't...this is a perfect replacement. There are few sweet features that she loves such as the flushing toilet noise and the toilet seat goes up :P as well as the pop up tent. I think this is the only toy in the house so far she can share with her 7 y.o. sister without fighting :). Overall a good and fun toy. Altho there are a lot of stickers to put and i recommend an adult do it.
very disappointed it doesn't roll - Dec 29, 2009
I was very disappointed in this camper. I had the original orange one as a child and I played with it outside in the yard with my dolls. This new one doesn't roll because the wheels are not large enough. My daughter has to push it across the floor! The box claims "Wheels really roll" but they don't. Very disappointed, I contacted Mattel and they said they'd mail me $3 voucher for my problem. Not much consolation for a $70 toy that is poorly designed.
You people are so Greedy!!!!! - Dec 29, 2009
All my daughter asked for was a Barbie Glamour Camper for christmas. We searched every store possible, online and in 6 different states. They were no where to be found.....except on ebay and amazon. Please keep in mind that this toy cost $65.00 at wal mart, but on ebay and amazon it cost between $200-$300. That was ridiculous so thank you for ruining my 6 year olds christmas!!! You didnt realize how many little girls wanted this toy but couldnt get it because it was outrageously priced!!!
Overall loved by my 5 year old - Dec 28, 2009
Great barbie product. You pay for the name but my 5 year old loves it.
Proud Father - Dec 28, 2009
Ten year old daughter loved the toy and has played with it for hours over the last three days since opening it.
Barbie Camper - very flimsy - Dec 28, 2009
We purchased this Barbie Camper for our 5 year old daughter. As a child, I had the original one which was introduced in 1972.It was quite durable and in fact, my kids still play with it! I was hoping this new model would be a great substitute for mine.. which is now quite shabby.
I was so disappointed in this new camper. It is so flimsy and cheaply made. It is basically a million little plastic parts that un- attach with the slightest pressure. This toy will never hold to repeated play. I wish we had bought something else as this will end up in the trash bin before long.
Waste of money!
Fun! - Dec 28, 2009
My daughter LOVES her glamour camper! I really liked how the camper seats were removable for use with the dining set as well and that the place under the seats can be used to store the smaller parts. It would be nice if there was a lid on that area so that the little items couldn't fall out, though. Overall this is a toy that is well worth the money!
My Daughter Loved This - Dec 27, 2009
This was a Christmas gift for my daughter who had about five barbie dolls and nowhere for them to live ;) This is big enough for all of them.
PROS:
Big enough for several dolls
Its Cute
makes noises (toilet flushing, stove top sizzles and the fake ipod plays music 4 about 15sec)
Lots of things to do
very modern (flat screen TV, ipod doc, gps)
CONS:
All those darn stickers you have to apply to the inside and outside (faux bookshelves etc)
Santa delivered - Dec 26, 2009
My nine year old daughter asked Santa for this for Christmas. It's all she asked for. I had already purchased her a house, but camper, camper, camper! So we found it here and ordered it, being dumb and having it sent to the house instead of somewhere like, my mom's, lol. But it arrived fine and got squirreled away.
On Christmas morning, she was excited. Almost ignored the rest of her gifts. She even only gave scant attention to the Wii that a friend Secret Santa'd to my kids, so focused was she on this camper!
It was easy enough - not really anything to put together. She and her big sister had some quality sister time applying the decals and she did open the house, too.
As with all plastic things, I have cautioned for care and gentleness. SO far, over 24 hours later, nothing is broken. That's a miracle. She had a really Barbie Christmas, and there are now several Barbie and friends, and one Ken doll (isn't he having a grand time among all the women!) all squeezing into the van and sleeping bags and having a fine time.
Plenty of accessories and details and it's making her quite happy. We're well pleased with it - now to find her a trunk to store all this Barbie paraphernalia in!
