Leapfrog Scribble and Write - Jul 22, 2010

My grandchildren, both pre school, love the Scribble and Write. After a period of time using the product they are quickly learning the difference between upper and lower case letters and are attempting to write letters independently. Good to take on journeys to keep them amused. Light and easy to carry around.

     Great learning activity - Jul 15, 2010

I got this for my stepson shortly after he had a surgery which required him to stay laying down most of the day (at 4 years old - ha!). He absolutely loved it. Initially, he played with it all the time - he loved drawing on the screen. However, the four different settings aren't something he can keep focused on - he usually changes it quite often until the game allows him to do something he wants. I'd recommend getting this with an etch-a-sketch or similar toy as well, as your child may want to draw things that the game doesn't allow. However, it's the ONLY effective tool I've ever found to help him learn (he stays at home). He's writing now more than workbooks and activity books have been able to get him to do. Combine this with the Leap Frog DVD's and a LeapFrog reader, and you'll hit a home run in getting your child to learn letters almost effortlessly.

Excellent toy for an early writer! - Jul 12, 2010

My son received this as a gift when he was about 2.5 and it was a bit advanced for him at the time, but it has definitely helped him form letters since he has been playing with it (he turns 3 this month). He knows how to turn it on, put it to the setting he wants (settings are shapes, numbers, lowercase letters, uppercase letters), and selects the letter he wants to draw. The instructions for writing the character or shape are very easy to follow and he is gradually getting better at starting the stylus at the right spot and following the line. After he's made the letter, he can turn off the lighting behind it so he can see only his writing. Then he swipes the button at the bottom to clear the screen and starts over again. As another user pointed out, it does not sense your writing at all as far as being able to tell you whether you've formed it right, but would you really want it to? Now, when I ask him to draw certain letters he seems to favor on paper (ie without the guide of the toy), he can do it. I definitely attribute this growing skill partly to this toy. It is not too loud, musical, or repetitive, and is quite compact, making it a perfect toy for the car.

Not as high tech as it looks, but amazing how quickly kids learn with it! - Jun 18, 2010

First off, the downside to this: The screen is nothing more than something I had as a kid that can be bought at the dollar store. It displays writing or shapes with pressure, not anything high tech like other Leap products. Not that it's a bad thing! Just sometimes hard to maintain complex drawings, like a smiley face. Also, the "eraser" is really flimsy. I cringe every time my son rips it across the screen. The pen is attached with a very short cord. I cut it loose after my son's frustration started to make the toy less fun. The pen is chunky so there's not really a chance of losing it.

Now the positives! My son was going to be in the hospital for a few days so I wanted something he could use while stationary. Of course they bandaged up his writing arm, but that's besides the point! He's 3 and a half and learned more with this toy in a matter of weeks than he did in a year in preschool! Basically, the screen at the bottom displays letters, shapes, and games for the kids to trace. It's great for visual and auditory learners because the letter is sounded out phonetically, described how to make it auditorially, and then drawn with the blinking lights.

It's really simple for kids to follow and moves at a decent pace. They can do the same letter over and over then "press the paw button" when they want to do a different shape or letter. I highly recommend it!

Excellent learning tool for preschoolers learning to write their ABC and drawing Shapes. - Jun 08, 2010

My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves this toy. It teaches Uppercase & lowercase letters, drawing various shapes, and some commom pictures. Its a great toy for long car rides, its not annoying like other toys, and the most important part is that my child is actually having fun and learning.

Beware leapfrog has dangerous products! - Jun 07, 2010

Dangerous toys! I have one of the older Leapfog toys with individual letters. Once they replaced the letters because the small magnets fell out. When the magnets started falling out again they would not replace or give me a credit for the toy. They just would give me a 15% discount on their website. Mattel recalled toys with small magnets but leapfrog knows of this deadly problem and is doing nothing. The toy letters have magnets with no covering over the magnets. Leapfrog should be recalling this item even though they "no longer manufacture it"! I personally am boycotting their products. Please Boycott thier products untill they do a recall.
Children can still die from this toy and Leap Frog is doing nothing!

     Great! - Jun 01, 2010

Great tool to work with a toddler just learning his numbers and letters. My one year old even likes to use it!

My son loves this - May 28, 2010

My son is 4 years old and he got it for his birthday and loves playing with it and erasing great toy reasonably priced and definitely educational value.

2 YR OLD TWINS WRITING LETTERS!!!! enough said. - Apr 26, 2010

This was recommended to me by my sister. It is simply amazing and think everyone who has a preschool age child needs/has to own this. Worth the money! We needed to go back and buy another one because the kids had so much fun with it. Really, really... they are two are are writing recognizable letters on it. It's wonderful!!!! Buy one.

     Great toy - Apr 19, 2010

I bought the Leap Frog Scribble and Write for my 4 year old son for Easter. He is having fun learning to write his letters. My 2 year daughter also likes to play with it. She doesn't yet understand her letters, but she likes to draw on the pad.

     Fun & Educational - Apr 17, 2010

Bought this for my preschool & kindergarten aged children. Unfortunately, I bought only one for them to share and that was a huge problem because they loved it so much for the first month! They were constantly fighting over it, so I guess it was a lot of fun for them.

Not sure it helped much with memorizing letters, but it's certainly a good educational toy because it provided them a lot of opportunity to follow directions and learn to hold pens/pencils properly.

     Another LeapFrog Success - Apr 16, 2010

I've been bringing our LeapFrog Scribble and Write everywhere! Completely portable and another LeapFrog success. The pencil grip is the perfect size and shape for my 3.5 year old. However, I do agree with the 3 star reviewer about the quality of the plastic writing surface but the other features still give it a high rating from us.

LeapFrog Scribble and Write - Apr 10, 2010

I had this toy sent to a three year old - based on the Leap Frog toys my child has had, this one looks great too

     A gift for my niece - Apr 08, 2010

I got this for my 3 year old niece. It seems quite sturdy, it worked well. She really enjoyed playing with it on Christmas. Since then it's been at her house and I can't say what she's done with it.

proberbly better to 2 year old - Apr 05, 2010

it is a nice product, but my son seems to be too old to this thing, he just turned 4. it is very helpful for him to practice handwriting, but can't attract him enough to stay longer. I recommend it if you have younger children.

     Excellent buy! - Apr 04, 2010

My young 3 year old is loving this and is actually learning to write her letters. It is a great buy, especially for the price. It does keep her interest which is more than I can say for just about any toy. I don't consider this a "toy" as much as an instructional device for learning to write and draw shapes but she clearly thinks of it as a toy. I wish it also included numbers but I am sure that must be included in a different device or the next version to get us to spend more money.

Great beginning tool for Early Learners - Mar 29, 2010

This is a great beginning tool for Early Learners. My three year old really enjoys using this toy. We keep it in the car for her to use while driving around town.

     Cheap - Mar 18, 2010

Just another cheap junk item. There was a possibility to make a really good learning toy here, but this is not the case.

Great for learning letters, wish also did numbers - Mar 04, 2010

This toy is great for shape/letter writing, but I wish they had added numbers too. My almost 5 year old plays with it sometimes, but it's not as big a hit as I had hoped. She can write very well (her fine motor skills are excellent) but has trouble recognizing letters and numbers, which this can also teach. I think if I had gotten this for her when she was 3 or just before she turned 4, it would have been of more value.

my granddaughter loves it. - Feb 23, 2010

I bought two of these. One for my four year old grandson and one for my three year old granddaughter. The grandson doesn't play with his but the granddaughter loves it. She calls it her "puter". So it is a toss-up. Maybe your child will like it, maybe not. I know my granddaughter plays with it a lot. Its one of her favorite toys.

     LOVE this toy! - Feb 18, 2010

My 2 1/2 year old son loves playing with this toy! Thanks to this toy, he taught himself what sound almost each letter makes and can draw some of them as well. I love that the letter-writing instructions are accurate and simple to comprehend. The slider eraser is easy enough for him to use on his own and you've gotta love the volume setting switch. great toy overall- would recommend it to anyone!

     Best buy ever! - Feb 12, 2010

We saw this at the store and my 3 year old daughter wouldn't let it go. I bought and we took it home, she plays with it several times everyday for at least 20-30 at a time. It is the best buy I've made all year! It makes learning fun, and she loves making her letters. She loves the dog Scout even more, especially on the play mode when you follow Scout around the yard and end up drawing a picture. Great fun and great learning.

Hand, eye, brain coordination - Feb 08, 2010

My 4 year old Granddaughter is using this like crazy to learn to make letters and numbers and having such a fun time. I would recommend this to anyone with a preschooler that is struggling with forming letters and numbers.

     Grama Kate - Feb 06, 2010

I am a "Fan" of Leap Frog products !! Have never had a bad experience. The quality is consistant & the products are age appropriate. My Granddaughter has quite a few Leap Frog Educational Toys and she enjoys every one. I know I can give her a gift that is well worth the price.

My son love it - Feb 05, 2010

My son love this!! I had a problem with him writing anything down he 5. He kept saying he couldn't do it he would try then give up. After 2 days of having this he love it and he writing more and is getting better he's penmanship is improving greatly.
