So cool - Jul 01, 2010
The wings on this Tie Fighter fold in, and the cockpit opens up to hold Darth Vader himself. Awesome. There is a clip underneath for Vader's light saber.
These wings are much, much more durable and less prone to fall apart than the wings on the Hyena Droid Bomber, although of course they "transform" less -- these wings are hinged. Lego has the hinges down to a good science -- they are easy to build and hold up well under play conditions.
This is a great toy for the money -- lots of play time on this one. Not too challenging, but enough pieces to be really fun to build.
Fun toy but fragile. - Jun 09, 2010
I got this toy as birthday gift. It was really fun, a challenging build. It is currently in my room on a book self.
Fabulous anniversary set! - Jun 03, 2010
If you have a Star Wars Lego lover in your house, DON'T pass on this set! It is extremely durable, stands up to hours of play, and of course, the intricate designs that makes Lego famous are here in full resound. The cockpit for Darth even has a special place cut out in the bricks so that he can wear his full outfit, including his mask, quite comfortably. The hatch raises and lowers and there's even a spot on the bottom for extra light sabers. This guy went together in about 45 minutes by a nine-year-old and it's just the cat's meow in the neighborhood. Darth Vader is great as a minifigure and his face is even painted on the head. Great, great toy, loved a ton in this house. Highly recommend!
Very fun - May 13, 2010
Lego is naturally fun. This Darth Vader's TIE Fighter is very fn to build and is very nice when done. The Darth Vader is nice too.
Lego star wars Darth Vader tie fighter - Apr 07, 2010
A little expensive but a lot of fun for my son of 7 who loves Star Wars. He looses some parts but seems to find them eventually. He is also able to added to it to make other star wars vehicles or ones he makes up with the other lego sets he has in his collection.
Five Stars - Mar 08, 2010
My nephew loves Star Wars and loves to play with all of the lego kits for Star Wars stuff - product worked for him.
Great lego set at an amazing price - Mar 02, 2010
This is a great deal, as you get a very nice full-featured Lego kit for a very low price compared to other Lego kits of the same size. Every Star Wars fan should get this. My 6 year-old loved it. Cheers.
Awesome Lego set - Feb 27, 2010
My 6 year old got this set for Christmas and while he needed some help with putting it together he was thrilled with how "cool" it is. I will say it does fall apart pretty easily, even for someone who doesn't really "play" with it... it's more of a display piece. We fixed that problem by reassembling it and super-glueing pieces together. This has worked out great. Just make sure you don't make a mistake when putting it together... because they will not come apart. He likes that he doesn't have to worry about losing peices or his little brother breaking them. We've decided to glue all the Lego sets he likes best and doesn't want to take apart. He likes this so much were shopping for more Star Wars sets.
Lots of pieces! - Feb 12, 2010
This was a good Christmas gift. Lots of small pieces so kept my son busy for a couple hours.
Good basic kit - Feb 11, 2010
My 6 year old nephew liked this kit but it didnt take as long to do as he would have liked. He also got the deluxe TIE fighter which was a bit much (he and his dad worked on it over a few days) - it would be really nice to have an in between level kit for kids that follow the instructions of Lego kits with little trouble.
Grandfather / 11 year old genuis - Feb 06, 2010
This is something our grandson wanted for Christmas. Upon opening it, I said,"Never!" However, we , (mostly HE!) put it together in a little over two hours.Tricky, but not TOO difficult. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW DIRECTIONS, Otherwise you must return and fix what you missed. Lots of fun, 250+ pieces, give yourself time. Good luck, and enjoy!
Great Lego's Item. My son Loved it. - Feb 05, 2010
My son just turned 14 and has had a few issues with following instructions. He loves Star Wars and Lego's. He had this built in record time and has been enjoying it ever since.
Prepare to defend the Death Star!! - Jan 28, 2010
I got this set for my birthday, and I was thrilled because I had really wanted a Darth Vader figure for my Lego collection. This set comes with one awesome Darth Vader figure that has a very detailed printed head and torso. He also has a black cape and a fantastic helmet. He is equipped with a silver lightsaber hilt with a red blade. The TIE Fighter itself is a fairly complex build and when finished it looks very fast and intimidating. The TIE Fighter is equipped with an opening cockpit with a seat and controls for Darth Vader. The ship is outfitted with two flick-missiles (one on each side of the cockpit) that have a mechanism to shoot them. The Fighter also has a holder for Vader's lightsaber behind the cockpit. Well, here are the basics of the set:
The good things
Darth Vader
Lightsaber
TIE Fighter
Mechanism to shoot the flick-missiles
Lightsaber holder
Opening cockpit
Printed cockpit control piece
Printed windshield piece
The bad things
Stickers
Flick-missiles
Cockpit needs more controls
Vader can not fit in the cockpit with his cape on
Over all, I highly recommend this set.
Cool looking, but does not stay together - Jan 03, 2010
Hard to play with because pieces do not stay together. Love the little Darth Vader
My son freaked - Dec 30, 2009
My son freaked when he opened this gift from Santa on Christmas morning. It was hard for him to put it together and he needed much assistance from dad. He is 9 and the age for this is 7-12. I am sure the younger the child the more difficult it would be for them to understand the directions and put it together correctly.
fun, but not for heavy use - Dec 28, 2009
pretty fun, not to hard to build, but not really built to be played with too heavily, falls apart pretty easy (like most legos)
Awesome Lego Kit - Dec 27, 2009
My son and I built this together yesterday. (He is 6) We had a great time working on it together. He loves that it came with Darth Vader and that he can sit in the ship.
As with other Lego kits, the quality is extremely high. The pieces all fit together and make solid connections. Pieces are straight, line up well, etc. This is very impressive on the parts where multiple tubes coming out of one piece have to line up with another piece's holes.
He'll probably play with it fully assembled for another day or two. Then we'll pull it apart and add the pieces to his collection. This to me is the real strength of Legos. It's funny making something from the movie, but I think it is better for my son and more fun when we start building our own creations. The cool thing the film kits bring to the table are pieces that can be used in really creative ways. Figuring out how to put together moving parts is also a lot of fun and takes some real analytical thinking.
I loved Lego as a kid myself and think they've done nothing but improve on what has always been a great product.
Fun Darth Vader ship Lego toy - Dec 06, 2009
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3UQO7ZB4Q172 This is a brief video showing you the assembled Darth Vader Tie Fighter. My son's love it, it was easy to put together, but it does come apart easily. I hope you find the video helpful.
Lego Star Wars fan fave!! - Dec 05, 2009
It was for our 8 year old son. It was challenging yet very fun for him to build. The ship and figure (Darth Vader!) are fun to play with.
Bad Design! - Dec 03, 2009
My 7 year old son loves LEGO's and can put them together in no time. He has a whole shelf just full of them. He prefers to display them more than play with them though he does occasionally take one or two down to play with. He put this one together the other day and right from the start it kept falling apart! He was so frustrated with it that he actually asked me to return it for a refund! Badly designed in my opinion and apparently a few others agree.
Really excellent set, with fun, stable features! - Dec 02, 2009
This set is a great recreation of the ship seen in the original Star Wars movie (A New Hope). It features a workable cockpit hatch, firing missiles, and fold-able wings. The Darth Vader figure included is also spot-on with a removable mask and lightsaber. He sits well in the cockpit. Very nice!
A word of caution, though, in that some have complained that the wings separate too easily. Nevertheless, I think this is a good opportunity to teach children to handle their toys with proper care. Plus, it gives them patience!
Learning experience - Nov 19, 2009
My 8 year old thoroughly enjoyed the process of putting this together. It was a great learning experience on how to follow detailed instructions and the cause and effect of not doing so. The down side is that the little pieces don't stay together well and it can be very frustrating to pretend play with it. If you are looking for something to challenge someone who is creative and likes to build and create something new all the time, it's a great toy. If you are looking for something for a Star Wars fan who likes to imagine and act out their own battles and scenes, stick with a non-Lego toy.
Great fun! - Nov 16, 2009
Got this as a gift for my 7-year-old son. He was thrilled with it, "even though it's a bad guy ship." He insisted on putting it together by himself and when it got challenging he told me he didn't want any help. He was so proud of himself when he finished with it and he plays with it all the time.
AWESOME! - Sep 17, 2009
I bought this for my son's 11th birthday. He LOVES Star Wars Lego sets. He was so excited to get this set. He said that it was a limited (or special) edition set. [...].
Great Gift for Star Wars Fans - Sep 09, 2009
I bought this Lego as a birthday present for my son--needless to say he is a great Star Wars Fan-- who turned 8. This is definitively the most accurate Lego I have bought to him. The design is just like the original TIE Fighter even the wings bend a bit to simulate the flying. Just a little remark and it is that if you are buying this toy for children under 7, you need to be near them as the booklet is not very specific on how to assemble the parts at some points. Also, it is not meant for rough play as parts fall apart easily. Besides that, I can tell you that any Star Wars lover will not be disappointed with this toy.
