Great great game - Jul 29, 2010
Probably the best game of strategy I've ever played.
Also, its random aspect makes it a different game every play.
Totally recommend it :)
Must-have expansion - Jul 23, 2010
If you are contemplating purchasing the expansion for Catan, then you already are aquatinted with the amazingness of this game.
All you need to ask yourself, is do you find your friends having to sit out and watch 4 people play catan, waiting for the next game to play? If so, then buy this multi-player expansion. It gets the job done.
Good game ! - Jul 14, 2010
I want to buy this game after the first time I played it.
My wife doesn't like me playing video games at all, but she agrees me to buy one of this cause she loves it after the first time she played it, too !!
After we bought the game, my mom came to visit us, she loved it, too !!
So I'd say this game is very attractive to all age or generations.
Excellent game! - Jul 12, 2010
I love this game.
I have bought several times for me and my friends.
It is an excellent board game for your brain training.
Settlers extension pack - May 03, 2010
We have a large family and this extension has let more of us play at the same time. Good quality game. We really enjoy playing this together.
A must have expansion for a great game! - May 01, 2010
This pack allows more players to join the fun in this great game.
More people need to learn about this cool game, it's got depth and remains interesting play after play.
Super Fun Game! - Apr 14, 2010
Super fun game! I bought Settlers of Catan and the Cities & Knights expansion, along with teh 5-6 player extensions for both games. A super fun way to spend an evening with family & friends! I hear it's kind of like Risk (which I've never played) - but better, because everyone is playing until the end, no one is kicked off, or eliminated, during the game. Always something to learn with the game, always a different twist, always a different way to win. So Fun!
love it - Mar 11, 2010
we played this game at a friend house and got hooked from the start.it may take a few rounds to understand how to play but once you do you will have a blast.this is a great game.
Catan + Expansion = better! - Mar 05, 2010
Even if you've only got 3 or 4 people playing Catan, it's *much* better with the expansion! I find the extra room and resources makes for a better game. Plus, you need this expansion in order to play the expanded Knights and Cities expansion.
If you love Catan and want to spread the joy, buy this! - Feb 26, 2010
OK. I like Catan. It is a great game to sit around and play, especially if your friends are good natured about it. Having a few drinks over a game of Catan is a fun experience that I recommend to everyone from the casual player to the serious. This expansion is great for one reason, and only one reason: It increases the number of people who can play with you! (This also makes the trading phase of the game have more strategy, as there are more players to trade with -- This can be a major plus if you are "serious" about the game).
The only negative is that the game will become longer. Read: double the amount of time. You might not think that only 2 more people would add this much time, but it really does. Coordinating everyone in this game takes some effort, and the more peopel the harder it becomes.
I definitely recommend this expansion if you want to increase the number of players who can join the fun!
Note: The expansion is made out of the same junk cardboard the original board is, so this game gets low marks for durability. --Seriously, this thing will wear quickly with use.
RCR - Feb 12, 2010
Catan is such a fun game. This extension pack just allows more people to play, so more fun!
Beware early Catan core game owners! - Feb 11, 2010
I had been excited about getting this to allow more players in our regular game night...however what is not listed is that this is made for the later editions where the water pieces are linked together like a puzzle (not the normal hexagon shaped water pieces). Really.. how hard would it have been to crank out a few water pieces to fit the old editions and toss them in the box... boom, all editions are now covered in one shot.
I'm sad to say I had to return this hours after receiving it.
Great game! - Feb 11, 2010
We love this game, even our 9 and 11 year olds. We have a wonderful time together and it makes our children think strategically.
Settlers of Catan - Feb 03, 2010
Settlers of Catan is a great game for the family! It is alot of fun, but you have to think alot during the game. It is challenging and competitive! I would recommend it if you want a "thinking" game that is lots of fun!
An all around good time - Jan 27, 2010
If you love the game "Risk" but can never find people who are willing to be desroyed by your army, this game is a great alternative. Though there are no plastic soldiers, and the object isn't to conquer the world, Settlers offers a 2-6 player party, and takes around an hour to play.
Cons:
It's expensive, and so are the expansions, but so are Xbox 360 games, and settlers is timeless.
The setup time is around 20min, but that includes everyone placing their first settlements.
Pros:
The gameboard changes everytime you play, so it's always a different challenge. Host's up to six playes (with the expansion). Great social game that let's you hang-out while you're playing. Never gets old.
Great Game - Jan 21, 2010
Catan is an excellent game for adults and older children. It combines strategy, quick thinking, and heavy competition. It is fun and not difficult to learn.
He loves it. - Jan 19, 2010
I got this extension for my young adult son. He loves the game. With the extension, more people can play allowing the family to stay together and play together.
Play it differently from 3-4 player - Jan 07, 2010
Loads of fun. You have to learn to keep up the pace, though, otherwise every turn takes forever. Don't let people hem and haw over out-of-turn building, and encourage people to make their trades quickly. Trading on your turn is not as critical as it is in regular Settlers, so you don't have to plead and cajole for 10 minutes. I noticed fewer 4-for-1 trade-ins and more buying of development cards. People rarely lost their cards to the robber as penalty for having too many, since there are so many opportunities for buying.
Warning: One son likes this extension so much, now he doesn't want to play regular, which makes it harder to get a game together.
Review - Jan 07, 2010
Love the game....just think for the price they could have made it more durable. The pieces bow and do not stay together. For the price, it could have been made out of something more than chintzy cardboard.
One of the great board games - Jan 01, 2010
I teach in high school and used Settlers to introduce the students in our Gaming Club to board games that were not the traditional American ones. This game is great. Its board is constantly new and random, it encourages competition without violence, and there's more to the planning stage and less relying on the random dice. This is a great game.
Catan Review - Dec 30, 2009
I purchased this game based on previous positive reviews. I have to say they were right.
I bought this for my family's Christmas get-together. The group included one PHD, two engineers & an MBA, yet it took some time getting the game started. They felt it was due to poor directions provided by the manufacturer. After 30 mins of setting up the game board and understanding game rules (which included the extension pack for 5-6 players), we almost gave up. But after playing the first game everyone was saying how much fun it was. After second game they were asking where I bought it. This game is more along the lines of RISK where strategy is important. The cardboard frame of the board could be stronger or made from wood (tends to warp slightly when adding the extension pack).
Great game - Dec 20, 2009
this is just the extension for the settlers of catan game... you have to buy the standard settlers of catan in order to use this
Settlers Of Catan - Dec 17, 2009
The Settlers Of Catan is soo much fun. I had people waiting to play the next game. That is were the expansion set came in. It has the same problems as the regular game. The pieces are made of cardboard and are too thin to stay together. Well, it was ok for the first 10 games but the parts tend to warp after time. Not much warpage, just enough to make it a drag to play. However, the game concept makes up for the cheap parts.
Not A child's Game - Dec 10, 2009
I bought this game extension for my 19 year son for Christmas and wasn't sure if it was the right thing so I had my 24 year son check it and I did choose the right one. It was a great price and both sons and their friends love to play this game. The extension pack goes with the Settlers of Catan game that I also purchased. It's a great game of strategy.
Settlers extension a big hit with our family - Dec 09, 2009
At a recent Thanksgiving gathering, Settlers with the 5-6 player extension was the most played game. It was played many times over three days. The extension makes a bigger board and allows more people to play. Everybody liked the expanded game's allowance for building and buying between turns.
