Lego! - May 16, 2010
Lego is great - a timeless toy! This blocks will last my baby for years! :-)
Enjoyable and educational - May 02, 2010
We got this LEGO box for my son when he was 2 years old, and started with stacking pieces together then making towers, he is now 3.5 years old and he builds or kinds of things, like planes, dog, horse, house, and other creative things. It could keep him busy for hours. It stimulates his education.
Great first set - Apr 20, 2010
Got this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter and she loves it. She can easily put the pieces together and often "narrates" what she is building. What looks like a jumble of blocks is actually a playground with all kinds of fantastical features :) Obviously it builds imagination and dexterity while having fun. This particular set is a great value for the number of pieces you receive and there is extra room in the container for you to add to the collection with more pieces as needed. Overall great toy and great value. Also we have played with the "megablocks?" version (the generic version) and they are not nearly as durable/sturdy as the LEGO brand.
Happy! - Apr 16, 2010
MY four year old grandson and I is really enjoying the legos. It just the right size for him!
Who knew legos were fun... - Apr 15, 2010
So, let me start by saying that when I was a little girl, I didn't like legos or lincoln logs or anything of the sort. And while I have a nephew who buys and assembles all of the extraordinary lego sets, I never thought we'd have them in my house due to my own biases. However, when a developmental specialist recommended that we use legos with one of our twin toddler girls, I instantly bought the LEGO Duplo Building Set.
Her love to practice stacking the legos and keep trying is awesome. It's wonderful to see her enjoy the legos and get better eye hand coordination every step of the way. In the meantime her sister, probably loves them as much as I did. And she loves to take apart what her sister put together and throw them everywhere. C'est la vie.
These legos definitely keep my girls occupied for 30 minutes, and with toddler twins that's a bonus.
great classic toy! - Apr 15, 2010
After reading several reviews, I decided to go with this set because my child is only 14 months old so we are just starting her out with Legos. She likes at this age to take them apart after I build them. This set is a great first set to start with. Don't buy the smaller set with 30 some odd pieces b/c it won't be enough.
Nothing tells you this is the "Preschool Building" set - Apr 01, 2010
This listing on Amazon does not give all the information about this set. This is the "Preschool Building" set. I thought I was buying a good mix and variety of blocks to form a basic foundation for building a lego collection and this is not a basic set as I wanted. It's to specifically build a preschool building, tree and some kind of vehicle. There are a ton of the tiny square blocks, and much fewer of the standard size blocks. Which makes it not so great for kids under 2 because the tiny square blocks can be choking hazards.
Will Last forever - Mar 31, 2010
The blocks will last forever. But once you hit a certain age, they probably aren't as fun because they are so basic. Probably a great hand-me-down toy. This set didn't have much variety, just a little figurine and a block with wheels.
Duplo at its best. - Mar 21, 2010
The biggest feature of this particular Lego/Duplo product for me is the extra room in the tub to add other pieces to that didn't come with their own storage. The tub itself is durable and the closing mechanism is solid enough that it takes a pretty big "drop" to pop open on its own - which is a real plus with an excitable boy!
enjoyable - Mar 03, 2010
My granddaughters, ages 5 to 3 years of age, love this toy. It allows them to use their imaginations and create fabulous structures.
LEGO never ceases to amaze - Feb 11, 2010
I grew up with LEGO toys. Now, I have a two year old, she's set to grow up with them. These blocks have offered her no end of entertainment. It's something we can do together. It's something that encourages her to be creative. They're durable. They're easy to clean. They're bright and colorful, and come with a convenient carrying case. I can't ask for more in a toy.
Fun for all ages - Feb 10, 2010
I grew up with Legos and couldn't wait to buy my son his first set. These are recommended for 18 mos and up. My husband and I have so much fun with these, I think we build with them more than my 21 month old! But, he enjoys using his imagination and trying to construct fun objects with us. He gets very excited about the things we build with them and especially loves to knock down tall towers. These are a great starter set!
you can see a difference from the imitation lego's - Feb 07, 2010
After we bought this product we purchased an off brand that was on sale to add to the set. The off brand was cheaply made, the pieces did not connect to each other properly, and the colors were ugly.We actually returned them. In most cases I would run for the bargain, but these lego's have the cutting edge
Great value for the price - Jan 27, 2010
I like the bucket that the pieces came in for storage. We have something special to pick them up and put them into which I like. I have two year old twin grandsons and they like them alot. Sure they will play with them for years to come.
He loves creating things - Jan 26, 2010
At first, I thought my 5y0 nephew wouldn't like that as he was playing with all the other x-mas toys he received. Two days after, he turned to the lego and starting making all sorts of structures. He even taught me how to use some of the pieces...excellent gift1
All are enjoying.... - Jan 08, 2010
All of our children are enjoying this lego set. We just need to get more now! Great container and easy to hold pieces (but they're not those really big chunky legos). These legos are super for pre-schoolers.
A classic - Jan 01, 2010
For generations Lego blocks have entertained, Duplo is no exception to that tradition. Fun, vibrant, precision, bits, pieces and blocks are the hallmarks of Lego and this set delivers.
Great Set of Legos - Dec 15, 2009
Legos are a classic toy that encourage creativity. I ordered this set for my nephew who's 2.5 and he loved them right away. He also liked the box!
Duplo is a classic for little builders - Nov 23, 2009
Lego Duplo is a wonderful gift for little builders
Pros:
It's incredibly flexible
It stimulates the imagination, and builds hand-eye coordination
The toy is tough, and safe
It works in conjunction with "regular" legos when the child is older
No worries about getting the child a duplicate gift. If someone else got the kid the exact same set, no problem! Twice as many legos is twice as good!
Comes with a neat case to keep the duplos organized.
Cons:
Stepping on Duplos in your bare feet will cause 5 d20 piercing and bludgeoning damage. Dungeons and Dragons references aside, it's very painful, because the toy is so durable. This only seems to bother adults - kids have no problems with this because they have little feet and don't weigh very much.
Good choice - Nov 20, 2009
I bought this for my 2yr old daughter. She loves to sit and play with this product. Although I am not a child development expert, I think this product helps to further develop her fine motor skills.
Must have item! - Nov 09, 2009
LEGO's are a classic gift! My son just loves them. This box is very nice for holding them in one place and is easy for him to open it. It's the ultimate starting pack for children :) Like it ALOT!
Good Starter Set, but could use another large plate. - Nov 08, 2009
This is a great first set. Duplo blocks are Lego's larger toddler blocks, so the smallest piece is an over-sized 2x2 block.
I would suggest buying one of the big green base plates along with this set. LEGO Large Green Building Plate (15" X 15") This set has only the one smallish green building plate to build on which limits what you can build. We had to be creative to build houses, stairs or anything requiring a large base.
Included in this set is a smallish green base, a car frame and a lego man as well as a nice variety of building blocks. The storage bin is very durable and easy for adults to open but a challenge for most toddlers. One odd thing about this set is that many of the colors are kind of muted rather than the bright, vivid colors most of us associate with a basic lego starter set--this surprised me, but didn't bother my toddler at all.
I think the base plate is supposed to work with both Duplo and standard Legos, but I'm not sure. I think Duplo blocks are supposed to connect into the standard legos, too--although I don't know many older kids that would want to do that.
Great Starter Set - Nov 06, 2009
My twin three year olds have really taken to this set in recent months and it has really brought out their creativity. They have built me all manner of houses, trains, tracks, cars, aeroplanes and schools and even Kenya. I love their pride as they explain to me what they have built. I also love that they are able to play together quietly for more than 5 minutes with this toy. The box makes storage and clean up time easier. I wish that there were more bricks and more wheels and a bigger base plate but the real beauty of this toy is that you can add to it to suit your needs.
A great toy - Sep 28, 2009
LEGO's have been around for a long time. It's an imagination booster! I bought this set for my grandchild although I had purchased many sets for my 3 children. This was the toy that continued to be used long after one would think children would tire of it.
Good basics - Sep 06, 2009
Good Lego starter set for my 2yr old. Wish there were more bricks though, and a larger base plate!
