Melissa and Doug toys - Jul 09, 2010
Love the Melissa and Doug responsibility chart. Item arrived when promised and I would buy from seller again. We have a four year old boy and the chart has worked out great. He thinks it's fun and it's teaching him responsibility. Would recommend.
LOVE this responsibility chart! - May 31, 2010
WE LOVE THIS CHART!! This chart has everything we were looking for. It had all the chore/responsibilites we needed and then some. All printed up with a picture. All pieces stay together. Easy to move around the house if needed. Several of our friends have already ordered their own.
Nice Chart - May 10, 2010
The chart is nice, does everything a chart should and definitely attracts the attention of kids with the colors and pictures. However, the tokens are just the right size for little mouths so if you have a small child, hang it up much higher than they can reach. I had to take mine down and haven't re-hung it yet because I got paranoid about my 1 year old eating the tokens (I've found one in her mouth since purchasing).
Heavy Chart - May 06, 2010
This is a good product; however it is heavy and we are having a hard time figuring out where to hang it. The magnetic front bowed after a week and we had to get a new product. It seems to be fine now.
Great for kids! - Apr 25, 2010
I ordered this for my 5 year old son.
He was so excited when it came. We hung it on his wall, and every evening before bed, we mark off the responsibilities he has done that day. I love how it looks in his room, and he is definitely keeping his room cleaner since that is one of his tasks and he doesn't want to miss getting a smiley face. There is a wide variety of jobs listed on the magnets, so we can change it at any time. I love that it comes with more simple tasks for littler kids (such as brushing teeth, getting dressed) and love that it came with blank ones as well. We highly recommend this!
Great Tool - Apr 21, 2010
Our eldest son is almost 4 years old so we are starting to expect him to help out with more chores around the house. We wanted to have a way that we could keep better tracks of what he is doing and when he is getting it done. This board is going to work perfect for that.
okay, my kids like it - Apr 19, 2010
My kids love to get their magnets at the end of the day. I was disapointed to see that when my magnets were cut they were not done so very nicely. Some of the pictures are partially cut off and the same with some of the words. Other than that the kids like it!
Great visual motivation! - Mar 27, 2010
My son really needed motivation to want to make good choices. At 3 years old, he couldn't "see" his success unless he could physically add or take away a physical marker for each responsibility. When I add a magnet to his chart showing his accomplishment you can see his pride and self esteem boost. In contrast, you can see his disappointment in his choices when either I never add a magnet for a specific responsibility or take one away. It's a great way to take the parent out of the equation and have the child take responsibility for his/her own actions and let the chart be the learning tool. I say things like "How sad, I can't add a magnet for that today". I also make it so that if he gets 3 or more whole days of responsibility success magnets he gets to go to McDonald's for a parfait or ice cream or I take him to a local play gym.
Educational, eye-pleasing, and kid-loving chart! - Mar 23, 2010
We got ours in the mail yesterday and my 3 year old took to it right away. She enjoyed sharing in choosing her responsibilities and loves picking out smiley magnets when she accomplishes a goal. We are trying to figure out the reward at the end because she doesn't know much about the value of money right now - except that she likes to put it in her piggy bank. But after that it's done.
I'm thinking some quality time coupons instead.
It also helped give me some perspective on all the responsibilities I am trying to teach her... it helps me as a parent focus on a few at a time. Once she gets down the routine of clearing her plate from the table, we can move on to another role without overwhelming her - at 3!
The only thing I don't like about this chart is figuring out where to hang it because it's a little heavy (because it's a durable wood product...). I don't have much wall space in my kitchen which is the heart of our home and most reasonable place to put it. My husband is afraid it'd pull a hole open in the cabinet. I think I will hang it from the door to the utility room with a wreath hanger. Just things to consider when you are purchasing it!
Lita - Mar 15, 2010
We use this to teach my grandson (5) to be responsible. We check the chart at the end of the week along with him so he can see the progress he made. We determine what it is that he gets for the each activity.
Good Product - Mar 14, 2010
This is not a toy. This is an instrument to teach your children responsibility. I love the different categories it has and there are two blank bars where you can add your own with a dry erase marker. It helps keep my daughter organized everyday. I don;t have to tell her what to do, she already knows her daily responsibilities without me having to tell her. My daughter is 7 years old and it works great! I highly recommend this for those parents wanting to teach their children to be responsible.
It's not really a toy. - Mar 05, 2010
I bought this for my 5 year old and it is pretty good. She likes to get smiley faces for the chores that she does around the house. I pay her 10 cents for every smiley face she gets every week. I haven't found that it really motivates her to do the work, but it's a step in the right direction. You can change the chores every week or write your own. I think the magnets could be a little stronger as well, but all in all, I'd say I'm satisfied with the product.
Great Chart for teaching your child responsibilty! - Feb 28, 2010
This chart is perfect for helping your child keep up with his responsibilities. It has different age appropriate preprinted responsibilities and a few blank ones to make your own. My son loves going over the chart at the end of the day and talking about how he did. If he gets 3 full rows in a week, then he gets a prize. He definitely thinks twice about doing something when I tell him it will effect weather he gets his magnet for that day. The only thing I wish they had done is to make more blank ones to make your own if your trying to work on something specific with your child.
Awesome Chart for kids - Feb 22, 2010
I have a 5 year old and I think this is going to be a great way to motivate him to stay on task and do the daily duties required of him.
Only semi-motivational - Feb 06, 2010
We love Melissa and Doug products. This "Responsibility Chart" is as attractive and well-made as any of their products. Our 9 year old is typically enticed to accomplish tasks when she has a chart or list, but this chart is sometimes used, sometimes not.
makes helping fun - Jan 12, 2010
a purchased this b/c a friend had it. my 3 1/2 year old loves it....if she gets all of her smilie faces she gets a treat at the end of the week....makes doing thigns fun!
Great for positive discipline - Jan 10, 2010
We were having trouble getting my 4 year old to do all kinds of things without a tantrum ever since a new baby came into the picture. After putting this chart into place my son is much better about doing the requested actions because he knows he will get to pick a "sticker" (really a happy face magnet) for the chart and he loves when I excitedly read what the sticker says. I was skeptical because I thought he would never be motivated by picking out a sticker, but he totally is. When that gets old, he can earn a different reward that he would get after earning a specific number of stickers.
helps cure temper tantrums - Dec 29, 2009
I bought this when my child was 3 and having horrible fits. Negative reinforcement did not work with him....no matter how long he would sit in time out, or how many toys he had taken away, etc. His behavior immediately got better once I showed him the magnets. He learned not to whine, keep hands to himself, etc. As soon as he started learning that bad behavior means "no magnets", his temper tantrums ceased. We even added one that we call "listening ears". He is now 4.5 years old and we still use the chart. He loves it! He started bringing home "bad notes" from the teacher at day care, so I spoke with her and told her about the magnet system. Now when he misbehaves and does not listen, she reminds him of the magnets and he behaves much better. This chart has been a lifesaver to our family!
Great for my autistic child - Dec 26, 2009
This product couldn't have been found at a better time for us. Our son has high functioning autism and this chart not only keeps him on his much needed schedule, but he's positively rewarded for following the routine. We love this chart and are excited to utilize it daily!
Love It! - Nov 27, 2009
Bought this for my 3 year old grandaughter. She can't wait to get up every day, accomplish her "chores" and get a smiley. Her mom has determined an adequate number for her to shoot for and on Sunday, she gets to chose a reward for all her efforts. Each week they change up the goals and she start anew. It's adorable hanging at her viewing height in the kitchen and extemely well constructed. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to start their child working on behavior and household chores.
Therapy Tool - Nov 08, 2009
As a behavioral health counselor, I do not consider this a "toy." It is an attractive tool to increase responsible behaviors when used properly. This is great for ADHD and high functioning autism kids of ALL ages (teens tend to be immature in these categories and it is necessary to meet them at their current functional level) - and again when used properly. Some minor modifications are needed to have a functional chart, but most icons cover chores and expected behaviors. There are a couple blank icons so the caregiver can customize certain expectations they may have. Assigning a value to each token EARNED will accelerate progress (positive reinforcement - not bribes). Caregiver monitoring, consistency, and reinforcement is required or this chart will become useless at the fault of the caregiver.
Great motivator!! - Oct 20, 2009
I had looked for a way to get my child to start doing chores and he loves this responsibility chart. He is able to give himself stars for his jobs that he completes. I like the wide variety of chores to choose from and a couple of blank ones to create our own. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!
great teaching tool - Oct 13, 2009
Got 2 of these for my 5 and 6 year olds. The concept is great and the item is excellent quality. The "happy face" system is fun. My kids were really excited about these for about a week and a half and then they totally forgot about them. So... for me it ended up being a waste of money but they really are neat and great quality if you think your kids will stick with it.
Good tool for kids - Oct 03, 2009
It's a nice tool to have. My son likes to put those smiley faces in the right squares. At this point, we're also learning the days of the week through it and he loves to be prased in such matter.
To reply to a review i read earlier, about how the magnets are falling off easily if it is not placed somewhere where it could not be knocked down or kicked. Well, i can say those magnets are very strong, and i keep mine on a door knob and it always gets mooved. I can only say that when you first get it, there's an invisible film that you need to remove before placing the magnets. So that might be the problem.
It's a great toy, you won't regret and it looks like it would last as well.
Teaching a 3 year old to be responsible - Sep 05, 2009
This is great! My 3 year old is very excited about earning magnets by being responsible for her actions and chores. I like it because it's not just a chore list. I also love that there are things she can do now and resposiblities and chores that she will be able to do as she gets older. I will be buying another one soon for my 2 year old.
