Amazon.com Review
When your toddler has graduated from the Duplo stage and is ready to take the next step in his, or her, Lego journey, the Lego Ultimate Building Set is the ideal graduation gift. With 405 pieces stored in a durable plastic box with a see-through top, this set is the perfect place to let children continue to explore their imagination and engineering skills. The Lego Ultimate Building Set contains many small pieces and is designed for kids ages four and older.
The Ideal Lego Starter Kit
The Lego Ultimate Building Set includes everything a child needs to take the first steps to becoming an expert Lego builder. It includes one mini figurine, a building plate, and a wide mix of standard bricks in various colors as well as house and wheel elements. Following the included instructions and using pieces in the starter kit, kids can build a house, helicopter, dog, and car. The only flaw is that the instructions may be challenging for younger children, and require adult assistance.
As is the case with virtually every Lego set, your child will be limited only by his, or her, imagination and perseverance. Although the kit is designed for younger children graduating from Lego Duplos, you can be confident that your child will never actually grow out of the Ultimate Building Set. All of the pieces can be incorporated into future Lego collections.
What's in the Box
405 standard Lego pieces with house and wheel element, mini figurine, durable plastic storage case, and instructions.

With 405 pieces, this Legos starter kit allows your child to build a variety of different things. |

Cute and fairly practical! - Jun 15, 2010
I love that it has its own case! My nephew loves carrying it around. However, a few of the pieces are EXTREMELY small and were almost instantly lost. Definitely not for young kids! Overall though very cute and I would buy it again!
Mid-life crisis gift - May 24, 2010
I got this as a gift for my boyfried on his 26th birthday. It was an early mid-life crisis gift. He thought it was great!
Lego Building Set -- Good in Some Ways, Bad in Others - May 18, 2010
There are both good and bad things about this Lego set. I feel the good and bad points are about equal.
First, the good points. It has 405 pieces of which most are seven different colors and of great quantities. This facilitates the mixture of colored parts.
Second, the bad points. It comes in a large bin, which is mostly filled with parts in five plastic bags. These bags are relatively hard for anyone to open. I mostly needed a scissor to do this. After the bags are opened and discarded, the pieces only fill a small portion of the bin. This is good and bad, meaning the bin is very lightweight and deceptive at point of purchase. The good part of this, is additional quantities of parts can be mixed with the initial set. This adds to the weight of the bin. However, simply doubling the set, which I have, only fills the bin slightly further.
If you want a good starter set, buy this set. Know this however, you will want to expand this set by purchasing other Lego sets. In the meantime, Leggo my Lego and let us have fun building and creating.
Deceiving picture - May 01, 2010
Lego building bricks are great. I had them when I was a kid and gave my saved sets to my sons. Now they are hooked on them. Legos amuse them for days at a time.
My complaint is with one of the pictures used in the description of this particular set. The one of the farmhouse being attacked by a UFO is very deceiving. None of the bricks in that picture come in this kit and it shouldn't be used here.
Great Birthday present - Apr 25, 2010
Kaj is a bright, active, 6 year old - black run skier, lives on an island, likes backpacking and camping. He received this for his 6th birthday and loves it.
Great set! - Apr 14, 2010
This is the perfect set to start any child off building with legoes! There are plenty of pieces. My 4 yr old son and 7 yr old daughter love to sit and build houses from this lego set.
A real good stuff - Apr 11, 2010
I liked this stuff. One can make hundreds of combination from these blocks. Very creative and entertaining. Amazon have been real good. I never had any bad experience with them. Excellent services.
Good starter set - Apr 07, 2010
good starter set, but definitely mot enough with 2 children. you will need more to make it enjoyable to build
Building a Child's Imagination - Apr 01, 2010
These blocks give a child a chance to build something on their own, using their imagination, instead of something being done for them that they just play with.
My son loves all the different lego pieces - Mar 31, 2010
This is a good assortment of lego pieces not just blocks and bricks but many little detail pieces too. It also gives a lot of examples on what to build and my son really enjoys building something and then taking it apart and building something else. Couple this with other lego sets he has and he can go to town building too his hearts content.
LEGO Ultimate Building Set - 405 Pieces (6166) - Mar 26, 2010
Large starter kit with small lego pieces of various sizes and colors. Enough pieces included to build a small building, helicopter, vehicle, dog, plants and other things. Instructions included might be a bit difficult to understand for smaller children, so they'll need your help or let their imagination run wild. This is great for a starter kit.
Legos in a box - Mar 25, 2010
I purchased this toy for my two grandsons ages 4 & 6. It is definitely not for younger children. Love the container.
Lego Ultimate Building Set - Mar 24, 2010
I was initially disappointed with the small box and content. For $29.95 I expected more. However, I gave this as birthday present to my grandson (age 7). He told me the next day all of the things he built with the set, so I revise my initial thoughts to it's a great gift. Even though registered as 4+ he found it perfect as something he could do without adult help.
works well for a first set - Mar 11, 2010
The box is only about 1/4 filled with legos. Really for the creative builder, you would need about three of these sets to build much of anything. My son received these on Christmas, and we haven't played with it very much. It just seems like the legos don't stay together very well, and every time we build something decent, it falls apart so easily, it is hardly worth the effort. Possibly legos have always been this way. I was more interested in dolls as a girl, so this is really my first lego experience. For now they are put up in his closet. Im hoping since he is a boy, he will "get it" more than I seem to, and one day be able to build wonders with his legos. Meanwhile he seems to favor his duplo blocks, lincoln logs, and regular wooden blocks.
Not for Small Children - Mar 11, 2010
I was very disappointed. The pieces are tiny and not appropriate for young children. This looks like a building set for adult or teenagers.
405 sounds like a lot, but isn't - Mar 04, 2010
Legos are great, don't get me wrong... but it's a little disappointing when you are expecting 405 pieces to be a lot of legos (it's not). You will need to buy two or three of these to really go to town building. A little underwhelming.
For small and big kids - Mar 01, 2010
My husband and my children love Legos. This is a really good deal when you consider the free shipping. Will definitely buy again.
Lego Building set - Feb 24, 2010
This set was great. My kids were getting the sets that built specific vehicles and we wanted them to have more pieces to help them build anything in their imagination. This was a perfect starter set.
Good Time pass for kids - Feb 17, 2010
It takes some time for kids with less than 4 year to start on with this... Once got used to experimenting with this... they will love this and its a lot of time pass with education also.
Will definitely recommend these products as buying other toys like cars or dolls are just time pass for few minutes... but these kind of toys will give lot of thinking power and will engage kids for long time...

Not as impressive as it sounds - Feb 15, 2010
Nice pieces overall. Variety well chosen. Sounds like there would be more to it the box isn't even full. Very nice durable box with see through lid.
Leggo my Lego - Feb 10, 2010
Everybody knows kids and adults both love Legos. This starter set was perfect for the 5 year old I bought it for - lots of pieces to get him started creating and a sturdy storage case to keep the pieces in.
Shipped promptly, even in the holiday rush.
Lego deal - Feb 06, 2010
As you parents will know the price of Legos has skyrocketed over the years, with all the special packages designed for building specific projects. This ended up being a fantastic deal for the amount of Legos you get at the price. Well worth it.
Great toy for a builder - Feb 06, 2010
We got this for our 6 year old for Christmas and it's one of those toys that's great for when they want to play, but you know they need a little "down time". He was so focused on making his house and car, and was so proud of himself that he had me take pictures to email everyone. A great toy, I highly recommend it.
Lego Ultimate Building Set - 405 pieces - Feb 06, 2010
My 10 year old grandson (who is autistic) enjoys his lego set tramendesly. It gets his mind and imagination to really working, as he builds so many things with all the different pieces. I've seen him build whole towns with them surprising everyone.
Molly S. - Feb 05, 2010
I love legos and I got this for a great price for christmas. Thanks Amazon.
