Awesome teether! - Jul 28, 2010
This has been our daughter's favorite teether! She has loved it since she was about 4 months old. Still loves it at 12 months. A must-have for teething.
A Mommy's Review - Jul 27, 2010
My daughter LOVES her Sophie! The best thing for my teething baby!! A little pricey but worth it! Make sure you read the story of Sophie the giraffe if you get one, its very sweet!
Nice product, wish my child would chew it! - Jul 26, 2010
This is really cute, and it feels really soft. I thought my little girl would love it instantly like so many other reviews, unfortunately she didn't. The product is great and very well made. I think my older son would have loved it, but my daughter started sucking her finger and never took to any kind of teether. She may have picked it up a few times and put it in her mouth, but that was it. Now at a year she doesn't even pick it up. I'm giving four stars because of the quality, and I would have paid twenty dollars to know that what my child is chewing on is safe. I took off a star for the unfortunate parents like me who spent so much on a toy that the dog did actually end up with.
Not worth it - Jul 26, 2010
So I think this is kinda over rated as a teething toy. It's basically like a dog toy with the squeak and the feel of the rubber. So far my twin 6 month old girls can't find anything small enough on him to chew on. I'd skip buying this given another chance. Especially at this price.
BE CAREFUL!! - Jul 26, 2010
My 5 mo. old daughter LOVES this toy, but she just got one of the legs stuck down her throat and was choking on it! Do not let your child play with unsupervised!!
Baby's favorite toy - Jul 20, 2010
My baby has played with her giraffe since she was 3 months old. It's her favorite and she smiles whenever she sees or hears it. The long legs and neck are easy to grasp and the feet fit in her mouth. It's softer than the plastic toys out there and smells faintly sweet. My baby (now 5 months) does get tired of it after a while - it doesn't satisfy her sucking desires quite as much as her pacifier. Baby's other favorite toys right now are her pacifier and washcloths.
Overpriced nostalgia - Jul 20, 2010
After all the 5 star reviews of the Vulli, I ordered this. I am an enthusiastic, older first time mom (after 4 years of infertility) meaning- I spare no expense on my daughter, but this was truly a waste of money. There are hundreds of other teethers that are far better construction, function, delight, etc. What a disappointment. The one salvation was that its cute- but for 20 bucks?!! A lot of overpriced nostalgia.
Sophie is the BEST! - Jul 19, 2010
5/5 STARS!! The price is a little high for a teething toy, but Sophie is worth it. And she is sooooo much more than just a teether. My daughter plays Peek-A-Boo with her, uses her to chew on while she falls asleep, and Sohie has been used to occupy her hands while I'm changing her diaper. We Love Sophie.
Perfect baby toy - Jul 19, 2010
My baby girl is 4 months old and has been working on reaching for objects and is of course putting those objects in her mouth. I've been concerned about the weight of some of the toys and rattles she has. A lot of them are made of hard plastic that if they fell on her face it would hurt her. Sophie the giraffe is so soft and light that it isn't a worry at all. My baby loves Sophie, she chews safely (food-based paint) on her and tucks her under her arm when she naps. She also likes to look at the contrast of spots on Sophie's body. I also like the way Sophie squeaks. It's a really soft sound, so that the baby is alerted by it, but not startled. I know it seems expensive for a baby toy, but it is really worth it.
good job Sophie - Jul 18, 2010
This toy is good teether and it make a funny sound. We introduced it to our baby at 2 month and till now (8.5 month) she still laugh when she see it and bite it too. The most important thing is that it is a french hand made, so no china here :)
Little guy loves it! - Jul 16, 2010
My son (now 11 months) loves this giraffe. He chews on it when he he's teething and every now and then when he's not he will squeak it. My babysitter's 3-year-old asks for it when I see him - he likes to squeak it!
They eyes are kind of creepy looking (in my personal opinion), but that's the only thing that I don't like about it.
The paint hasn't come off and it doesn't show any sign of wear (we've had it since he was about 3 months). So it survived - throwing, squeezing, chewing, and shaking. It's also easy to clean with a baby wipe or damp cloth.
You'll Never Regret Getting Sophie - Jul 14, 2010
We were given this toy for our daughter when she was about three months old. She loved Sophie instantly and even at 17 months she still plays with it. The legs are very soft, but still firm enough to help with a little one teething. Though Sophie has seen many hours of chewing she shows no signs of wearing out or coming apart. The only thing we have noticed is that the spots and hoof coloring did start to fade with chewing. All in all we loved getting this as it was something we would not have likely purchased on our own but have since gotten it for others for shower gifts.
Favorite toy - Jul 14, 2010
This is defintely our 6 month old baby's favorite toy. It was also the first toy that he showed any interest in. When I hand it to him his face just lights up, even if he's playing with something else. It's so easy for him to hold, pass from hand to hand, and he likes chewing on different parts of Sophie. I probably should not have put it in the dishwasher, the squeaker sounds a little "strained" now.
not worth it - Jul 14, 2010
I bought this expensive one hope my son would like it. didn't work for me. waste of money.
Wonderful toy, all babies should have one, but be careful/stay close by! - Jul 12, 2010
My 4 month old loves Sophie so much! I have other toys but this is the ONLY one she enjoys chewing and really goes to town on her head! She can grab her legs & neck easily. The only thing I would be careful of is to stay nearby while your infant is small and eating sophie (common sense right?). My daughter has been able to grab sophie and put her in her mouth during tummy time for a while but a few weeks ago when she was 3 months she grab the giraffe up side down and got the leg in her mouth but couldn't move her head off it and ended up gaging a little, I was 2 feet away so I caught her in 5 seconds, no harm, just a startled baby & mama- just watch out. I STILL love sophie and have a ton of pictures of her eating sophie. Note: you can not sterilize, not dishwasher safe, so we wash in warm soapy water, (so far no paint has come off) but there is an annoying hole for the squeeker so you can't submerge her (minor details but if you have thrush you might want to wait until it is gone to play with toy).
It's ok - Jul 12, 2010
I was a little disappointed with this. It's as described and everything, my son just hasn't taken to it at all.
Just like a dog toy - Jul 11, 2010
I was highly skeptical about Sophie because it looks like a dog toy and is over [...]dollars. After months of revisiting the sight and checking reviews, I finally decided to buy one for my 9-month-old daughter. It came in the mail about 3 days later and what a surprise! Sophie IS a dog toy, except she is packaged fancy and marketed to babies. My daughter did like it, but got bored very quickly. She likes to play with junk mail WAY more. Once I offered her a straw wrapper and Sophie at the same time and she chose the straw wrapper.
However, my dog Marley LOVES Sophie.
Definitely not worth [...] bucks.
GREAT PRACTICAL GIFT - Jul 11, 2010
I have purchased three of these teethers as gifts. The parents have all called me to tell me how much their babies love them. It is both a unique and useful gift to give.
I had my doubts... - Jul 09, 2010
I really had my doubts but my 5month old son LOVES this toy!! When I opened the package I was a little set back I thought that Sophie would be a little bigger. It is a dog toy for all intents and purposes but one that my son loves soooo it's worth it. I did read the reviews on the "choking hazard" I would like to say that it could be a GAGGING hazard but that is a HUGE difference between gagging and choking! And despite this my son gags on his own fingers so it's not exactly a danger. If they gag they pull it out of their mouth. I don't think sophie is a huge danger. It's a little overpriced but then again I don't buy many toys for a baby...rattles, a chew toy here and there but nothing expensive to I figure if he loves it then it's worth it!
We LOVE Sophie! - Jul 09, 2010
We love Sophie! Better yet, our daughter just adores her! Sophie has now lost some of her paint due to the chewing and sucking that our baby has done but the rubber is nice and sturdy and there's no damage to the body. I inspect it regularly and it is nice and solid. We regularly hear rubber creaking sounds when little Sophie is being mauled but she doesn't complain. I will be buying Sophie for all of our baby-producing friends and family! LOL
Dissapointed - Jul 08, 2010
Despite this is one of the most highly rated product for teething (that's why I bought it!), my son didn't like it at all. What I think the design has a flaw is the small hole that allows the giraffe to make some sound when it is being squeezed. Since this is mainly used for teething baby, I need to wash it everyday since my son will keep on put into his mouth. However, the hole always cause some water to be left over in it unless I lie dry for few days. This makes it very inconvenient and therefore, I think it is not a good design for teething product.
$20 for a chew toy. HELL YES! - Jul 07, 2010
My husband was shocked when I told him how much I spent on Sophie. "20 bucks??? You could have bought the same thing at PetCo for $3!"
So I began to point out its pros. Sam absolutely loves Sophie. She's the one toy that Sam doesn't immediately haul in the air after giving to him. The thing about Sophie is there are all these little places for him to chew on - little ears, the snout, the hooves. She's really easy for him to hold, and it's all non-toxic. I know she looks simple, but really, she's the best toy he has.
I won him over. He now agrees that Sophie is the best toy we've ever bought.
Phenominal - Jul 07, 2010
I bought Sophie for my grandson Super Sean and he loves her. The best part is that Sophie is well known. Everywhere we go another mother will come up to us and say you have Sophie, even non english speaking mothers. Sophie is loved by all. 5+stars
great toy - Jul 06, 2010
My son has loved this toy since he was about 4 months (currently 6mo). It doesn't look like much but it has all kinds of perfect surfaces for chewing. Seriously, he loves it! It's well made and cleans easily. I know it's a lot of money, but we aren't sorry we bought it! Makes it a great treat to buy for baby showers/new baby gifts.
Sophie Fan - Jul 04, 2010
I bought this for my baby boy and he still loves it at 11 months. Now it is not so much for "teething" but for playing. It has the best sound when squeezed and not at all annoying. Sophie feels so soft. For the longest time, he preferred to hold her upside down and "play" and finger the legs and hooves. I could just see in his eyes how he studied the shapes and "dots" on her body and the features of her face. I NEVER had any problem with the concern that some reviews had for choking on the legs. Even though it starts out as a teether, Sophie grows to be a part of the family!
