     wooden letter - Jun 29, 2010

my grandson got one of these for christmas.. i think as he learns more about words and starts understanding about the written words more, he will enjoy them, and get more out of them.

     puzzle - Jun 12, 2010

My 3 year old loves this puzzle. If your child likes to work puzzles this is an excellent buy. Durable use it all the time.

     VERY EDUCATIONAL - Jun 06, 2010

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT MY SON CAN ASSOCIATE THE WORDS WITH THE PICTURES BOARDS AND ITS GOOD FOR WORD RECOGNITION AS WELL, MY SON JUST TURN FOR AND WITH THE HELP OF THIS TOY HE WILL SOON BE READING.

Wonderful learning tool with 1 tiny flaw - May 27, 2010

My son really loves this "toy"; it's more of a learning wooden puzzle for each word. I love that it has a picture of what it is "the sun" and then he can spell it out s...u...n. Good connection and thinking tool. It's extremely solid and quality.

The only problem I have with it is certain letters are "tooled" to only fit one way and it frustrates the heck out of my 3, almost 4 year old. The "S" letter can only be inserted one way, not upside down. So it enraged him and we had a 5 minute tantrum about the letter "S"! Same for "u" and "n", they can't be used upside down, you have the find the correct letter and place it in the correct way - perfectly. This really frustrates, but other than that, GREAT TOY and learning fun!

It has lots of lengthy potential. I can see him playing with this years from now. Thanks Mellisa & Doug you really made learning fun!

     Great Learning Tools - May 21, 2010

My 3 year old son loves puzzles and he loves playing with these. They make a great birthday gift for any toddler. I just wish they came in upper case letters as well.

better quality with older sets - May 17, 2010

My daughter saw this years ago at a Toys R Us and asked her Aunt for it for Christmas. The set we have has 10 double sided boards and a cover to the wooden box. Fast forward 4 1/2 yrs my son has discovered this toy and loves it, I decided to get another one to donate to his preschool class. I recently received the new one and there are several differences. The newer one only has 8 double sided boards, no top to the box and the letters just don't feel as well made. The newer set is nice don't get me wrong but I just don't think it will last as long as our first set.

     Great quality - Apr 06, 2010

All wood construction reminds of my Kindergarten days... many, many years ago. I was very pleased with the quality, finish, and execution of this educational 'toy'.

     Absolutely wonderful - Mar 30, 2010

I got this for my son for his third birthday and he loves it. He has been playing with it 2-3 times a day since he received it and it is really helping him with his lower case letter recognition. The other say we were reading a book together and he picked out the word "bird" from the text, and there wasn't even a picture of a bird on the page. The boards are beautifully designed and the letters are very sturdy. I wish they made a set with upper case letters too!

     :) - Mar 05, 2010

Like others have mentioned it would be nice if there was an enclosed space for the letters, but overall my son (2.5) really enjoys it.

Present for my grandsoin - Mar 03, 2010

Bought as a birthday present for my 5-year-old grandson. He seemed thrilled with it. Wooden, so it ought to be durable. But too early to make any judgement on that score. Ask me again in six months.

Great start for learning letters and words - Feb 11, 2010

The Meliss and Doug see and spell is a wonderful way for your toddler to learn his letters, as well as working on motor function. I like that there are many different colors that the letters come in and that in order to spell the word on the wooden card, the child needs to place the letter in the right spot, and there is a nice picture of the word they're spelling on the card. It's a very well thought out learning toy from design to finish.

Great idea poorly made - Feb 05, 2010

I run a small preschool, of 6 children ages 2-5. I buy Melissa and Doug products all the time. Most of the time I feel they are very educational and made well. This See & Spell is not the case. The fake wood is all cracked and bits are coming off. Like it skips the sanding step when it was being made. The color cover for the letters is missing or coming out on a handful of the letters. The children have had it for less then two days. I noticed the cracks and problems the first day when one of the children asked for a lesson on it. Should have looked more closely before giving it to the children.

Idea itself is great. Very educational game and the children love it. Just some of the letters I have had to take away, so they don't get hurt. Just really disapointed in this product. It doesn't hold up to the high standards I have for Melissa & Doug products. Hopefully it was just a bad batch and no one else has this problem.

great find and buy - Feb 01, 2010

another thing bought for my son and i must say it was a great learning experience and fun for the adults also.
can be used for many things.

     Pretty good - Jan 28, 2010

I like this puzzle set. The only complaint I have is that it comes in a nice wooden box, but there is no lid for where the letters go. It is just an open box..which makes it pretty ackward to store.

     Awesome - Jan 20, 2010

My wife preached about these for months before I bought them, I wish I hadn't waited so long. Great product for our daughter, she loves finding the letters and spelling the words.

     Learning tool! - Jan 09, 2010

This is very helpful to learn, my baby is already learning this stuff, and she enjoy it too, the colorful alphabet is great too!

     great learning tool!! - Dec 28, 2009

my 4 year old son got this for his birthday and he loves it. we don't get it out too often because of his 1 year old sister who likes to steal his stuff and would lose all the letters,... but this is great for him. He is still learning to recongnize letters and this certainly helps for that and to learn how to spell and put words with objects. i'm very happy we got this and i'm sure it will be loved for years to come. good price too

Wonderful Toy - My Son Actually LIKES IT! - Dec 17, 2009

I bought this in October for my sons 3rd Birthday. He loves it. I was actually surprised at how much this puzzle held his attention. He knows some of his letters, but not all and I think this will really help familiarize him with the alphabet in a way that I would be unable to do with flash cards or work books. I highly recommend this. Also teaching him word recognition and he likes to try sounding out letters now to. Granted he doesn't usually match up the right sounds with the right letters, its still super productive. Since he's able to see the picture that the word describes he's now actually matching the phonics to the letters. This toy isn't going to teach him how to read, but I think it is a great tool to help familiarize a toddler with the phonological aspect of words. BUY it! BUY IT NOW!

     Melissa & Doug See & Spell - Dec 12, 2009

I purchased this puzzle for my daughter for Christmas. She has other puzzles from Melissa & Doug and she still plays with them. She loves to play with puzzles and she's trying to learn how to spell words now which is great. I know that she will like this product when she opens it on Christmas morning.

     See and Spell - Nov 01, 2009

My grandson loves this set. He is four and is learning to spell all on his own. His father is a teacher and loves it! The only issue is the box it comes in has no lid and isn't durable like the pieces.

     Great learning tool - Oct 22, 2009

I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. She loves to read books with me, so I thought we'd start learning letters and words. This is a great toy because it gives you 16 words w/pictures so it's easier for the child to make a connection. My daughter can say the entire alphabet, and she knows the majority of the letters when I show them to her out of order. What a helpful tool! I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to work on letters and words with their toddler.

Great puzzle to incoperate spelling - Oct 16, 2009

I like Melissa and Doug toys because they are sturdy and appropriate for the age, in this case toddler/pre-school. It's simple, straight-forward logic that kids understand and like to try. My daughter can't read yet (she is 34 months), but she seems to enjoy it. She knows her letters and this particular puzzle has helped her recognize lower case letters. Beware that hte letters are small and my 18 month old likes to put them in her mouth, so I keep the pieces where the younger one can't get at them. I think it's great!

     Just Average - Oct 04, 2009

Like everyone else, I can't believe that the paint is coming off the letters and that the "lid" is just a piece of plastic that doesn't really work as a lid. It really should have a better lid. That said, my son really likes it. The words are simple words and the pictures are nice and bright (as are the letters). It is also nice that these letters are lowercase.

great for kids loving letters - Oct 03, 2009

My son is 4, so he kind of already outgrew the inserting of letters on those wooden tablets, BUT he just loves the letters themselves. We make up words and he caries them all over the place. So if you have a smaller child, you can teach him his first words through it and when he grows older you can make new words.

     Fun and Educational - Sep 28, 2009

My two and a half year old twin boys love this toy. We have owned it for a few months now and it is still a favourite.

I have been surprised by both their attention span when playing with the see and spell and with the improvement in their letter recognition. It also appears to be a great introduction to some simple words. It has enough letters for them to be able to play with the toy at the same time and there are enough words for them to share.

I bought this hoping to increase their interest in words and speech and it has certainly met my expectations.
