     Packaging FAIL - Jul 23, 2010

Sad that I had to to go Amazon reviews to figure out how to get the wires out of the cube. Used some pliers but as I pulled the wires out some of the plastic casing around the wires was stripped off and will forever be entombed within this God-forsaken cube.

     Amazing Musical Baby Toy...Finally! - Jul 20, 2010

Most musical baby toys are terrible. The songs are poorly arranged and annoying as hell. This box plays enjoyable tones and tunes that baby can mix and match to create either a fuller orchestra sound or solo instrumentation. I bought this toy for my baby niece and she has loved it since about 4 mos on (she will be 1 soon). It is fun yet low key, durable, and as long as the batteries aren't dying it sounds great! I highly recommend this toy as an early intro to music for your small child.

Average toy with difficult packaging & incomplete instructions - Jul 16, 2010

After receiving this toy as a gift, I had the same response as many of you lately: this thing sounds terrible. I was also frustrated that the wires attaching the cube to the packaging were so difficult to get out (it's attached with two wires that run inside of the cube for about two inches). Here was the response I got from the company:

"Thank you for contacting us, we recognize that customers like you have made Munchkin the company it is today, and we truly appreciate hearing from you. I'm very sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your Mozart Magic Cube. To remove the packing wires the best thing to use is a set of pliers. Hold one end of the wire with the pliers to pull the wire up and out and use your free hand to push the other end of the wire in. Doing this "push and pull" motion will free the wire. As well, do not worry about putting a little force into removing the wire for it will not damage the toy. In regards to the sound, the Mozart Magic Cube only comes with temporary "try me" batteries so the consumer can try the toy in store before purchase. As stated on the attached instructions, 3 AA alkaline batteries are required in order for the cube to work/sound properly."

So basically, what you have is a baby toy that requires pliers and force to get it out (certainly they could have come up with something easier!), and you're somehow supposed to know that because they say they are "try me batteries" that that means you need to replace them immediately to get better quality. The instructions say that there are "try me batteries" included and do state that the toy requires 3AA batteries to work, but nowhere does it say that the "try me batteries" won't ever provide proper sound even when new. I'm new to the world of infant toys, so maybe this is common, but my thought was that "try me" would just mean that they're not going to last long. Since this toy came from amazon.com and had obviously not been tried out in a store, I didn't think the batteries would need to be changed out immediately. But here, "try me" batteries means that they're junk batteries that are of poor quality even as new (even though they say "super heavy duty").

With new batteries, the sound still wasn't spectacular, but it was an improvement. So all in all, it's an okay toy, but know that it's going to take some work before your child can even play with it. Have your pliers, batteries, and screwdriver (for the battery door) ready if your child is going to want it right away!

Great gift for 1 year old - Jul 15, 2010

bought this for my niece's first birthday - she loves it, as do her parents. The melodies are all pleasing to the ear, so it's hours of entertainment!

     Great Toy!! - Jul 14, 2010

My baby got this toy as a gift...He simply loves this toy..has been playing with it since he was 4 months old..

Colors, music and the ease with which a baby can operate, makes me give 5-star rating for this product...

5 month old loves it; unfortunately, the color comes off!!! - Jul 08, 2010

I bought this as a gift for my best friend's 5 month old baby. She tells me the baby loves it and it's the only toy the baby laughs at when he plays! One problem: my friend noticed that the color of the cube comes off! Not good for the baby! So now they only allow the baby to kick the toy and look/listen to the toy from a distance! I'm not sure if the one I got was a defective one, but parents out there should be aware of this problem as baby's will always put toys in their mouth.

     10 month old loves it - Jun 19, 2010

    My daughter LOVES this toy.

We first gave it to her at 6 months for Christmas, which was too early. She wasn't strong enough to push the button herself, so she didn't really like it. Around 8 months or so, she started liking it. The more she figures out how it works, the more the likes it. At 11 months, she plays with it all the time. Now she's strong enough to lift it, so she hands it to us to play.

     Solid - May 29, 2010

I bought this toy for my grandson on his first birthday. It is well made, very sturdy, colorful with great music sound. This I particularly liked because I find many musical toys have poor sounding music. He has been enjoying the Mozart Cube. It is the kind of toy that he won't outgrow for quite a while.

Possibly dangerous for under 1 year - May 14, 2010

Initially, I thought this was a great toy. My 5 month old didn't seem to love it, but would sort of press the buttons and screw around with it. Unfortunately, at 6 months, she can now sit up, but has little control over her body. Today, she flailed herself towards the cube and banged her eye socket against one of the corners. She has no injury to her actual eye, but she has a bruise below her eye now, and has been crying all night.

I am done with hard plastic. I think I am switching to all soft toys and cubes until she is 1.

Not annoying and the little guy loves it. - May 04, 2010

I bought this for my 2 year old since he's a music nut. While it's listed for younger kids, he loves toys that play music, so I figured it was worth a shot. Love at first use. He has his favorite songs and instruments. He'll change it up and play it over. The best part about this toy is it isn't annoying, like some Elmo toys. Also, it's tough. He's thrown it and the soft corners just bounce. The only bad part is there isn't a volume control - but it's not too loud, so I don't mind. I think my son will love this for at least another year or two.

     DON'T BUY - build quality has changed! - Apr 30, 2010

Please save your money and don't buy this product. The majority of good reviews were made long ago when this toy actually had decent build quality. The model that's been shipping since 2009 is questionable at best. My toddler played with it only a few times before it stopped working. We've received zero help from manufacturer. It's unfortunate they switched to cheaper components as this was a promising toy.

     Not what I expected - Apr 30, 2010

We purchased the Mozart Magic Cube for our third daughter's second birthday. Our other children had one which has since worn out with use. Munchkin has purchased the rights to this toy from another company and it is completely lacking in the quality of the original toy. The original version had full sounding music which was a joy to listen to. The Munchkin version sounds 'tinny' and can get on your nerves rather quickly. The sound quality is extremely disappointing.

very good toy for many ages - Apr 26, 2010

This is a wonderful toy - it is entertaining to so many kids, not just babies. I cannot give it five stars though because there is no volume control. I find it too loud.

     Cheaply made - Apr 22, 2010

This toy would be good if it were built to last. The touch pads that play the music when compressed are held in place by a tiny cheap piece of plastic. After only using the product a few times, one of the music cube coverings broke off. We also have carpeting (not hardwood floors), so you can imagine how flimsy this is built to break on carpet.

Very disappointed! ... and Amazon's return/exchange policy is terrible!!

    Buyer beware on this product.

Kid loves it but poor sound - Apr 21, 2010

I got it based on reviews and I am glad I did. My now-7-month-old son likes it though not as much as another musical toy. The only downside of this toy as far as I can see - which was also pointed out by other reviewers - is that sound is very unnatural - I was surprised even though I was expecting it. Think of an old cell phone with musical ringer.

The sound of music - Apr 20, 2010

I'm not a professional musician. My son isn't either. But he actually creates music with this toy and it engages him like no other. And when he dropped it so many times (boy, boy, boy) it broke within 2 months. The company replaced it, simply with an email and a picture, with no cost to me. Quality, quality, quality.

Very Musical but Weak Battery - Apr 16, 2010

I bought this for my 4-month old son. He is very fussy baby but when I played the music on this cube, he loved it. The best sounds he liked were the flute, piano and the Orchestra. The Best thing about this Music cube is that you can play one instrument at a time and then the final orchestra one to kind of show the music-mix.I believe it will help develop my baby's musical skills.

Cons: The battery didn't last long. We used it for 30 days, for about 10 min each day and the battery died down!

Mozart Cube is a favorite of my grandson - Apr 01, 2010

My grand son has over 1,500 pieces of toys; mostly small die cast hot wheels but almost every single day since I gave him the Mozart Cube for Christmas, he's always playing a tune on it. This is a great way to get your kids acclimated to the real classics.

     Great for babies! - Mar 30, 2010

We bought this music cube because another couple with a baby 2 weeks younger than ours have it and our daughter LOVED playing with it right away, even before she was quite sure what it was she was supposed to do with it. Whenever she starts to get upset, I just put this in front of her and she will look up at me and smile and start playing with it immediately.

The music selection is really good and the feature that allows you to turn on just one instrument or all of them will help the baby learn to distinguish sounds as s/he grows up. The cushioned corners are very nice as well because our daughter has now started trying to lift it and sometimes puts the corners in her mouth, so I am glad they are not sharp. It's also pretty durable, as she's rolling it and likes to bang her teething toys on the edges and it hasn't shown any adverse affects yet.

I highly recommend this to anyone with babies or toddlers. My daughter is only 6mo right now and she's in love with this toy.

Great musical toy for little ones! - Mar 29, 2010

All of the great reviews of this product encouraged me to purchase it and I'm so glad I did! This will be a birthday present for my daughter (who, by the way, won't have her 1st birthday until November), but I wanted to make sure that we have educational toys for her, and this truly is very musically educational. A great toy to incorporate the elements of instrumental music.

     Toddler loved it!! - Mar 24, 2010

My little one year old son loves to pick his own instruments/music. A music lover myself, I feel this toy was an introduction to my toddler's love for music. He now knows different keys, strings etc. cause different sounds. Great for 'cause and effect' learning as well!!

Great toy... for the hearing impaired - Mar 23, 2010

We got our twin boys this Mozart Magic Cube for Christmas, when they were 6 months old. We liked everything about it...except that it was TOO LOUD! I've actually been amazed at the number of baby toys that are annoyingly loud. Some to the point that they made our babies cry (like this one). I've actually had to place duct tape over speaker holes on numerous things such as mobiles, play gyms, and an activity table because otherwise those products are great, just loud. But therein lies the problem with this toy - there is no obvious speaker hole on it. It's as if the annoyingly loud music emanates from every crevice. Which is why it has been put away since Christmas. Now that the boys are 9.5 months I may try to bring it out again and see if they will tolerate it. If not I'll just sell this overpriced piece of plastic at my MOMs Resale next month.

Well enjoyed by 1 yr old. Review 1 Star wrong - Mar 11, 2010

    MUNCHKIN MOZART MAGIC CUBE
I only echo many reviews because the 1 star that pops up as most critical I believe was unwarranted. I give it a 5 star as it came as shown and is enjoyed by a 1 year old. It seems plenty rugged.

     A Delight! - Mar 08, 2010

Here's a musical toy that adults can tolerate--even play with! The variety of sounds and musical pieces makes it an ideal gift. Highly recommended!

One of my son's favorite toys! - Mar 08, 2010

I always read reviews on this website and the Babies R Us site before buying a product. This product got great reviews so I bought it - I was not disappointed.

I bought this for my son when he was about 4 months old. The music and flashing lights immediately captured his attention and, as he grew, he played with it more and more. I keep it in his playpen and it's easily his favorite toy (besides his exersaucer and jumperoo). It keeps him entertained longer than other toys.

I like that it's easily washable and has soft rubber-like corners (so, if baby falls on it, no sharp or hard corners to scratch himself on).

I also think the music is nice - nothing too annoying like a lot of toys out there. And, with the click of the "Orchestra" side, the song changes.

    So glad I bought this!

Update 6/10: My son will be 12 months old this weekend and he STILL loves his Mozart Cube!
