Very educational - Jul 26, 2010
My kids play this game all the time...it is so challenging for them and they really have to THINK....I love it because they are using their brain. And they just LOVE it!!
entertainement and challenge in one. - Jul 26, 2010
this is a great game. was recently introduced to it on a science street fair in NYC. the kids loved it so i got the game for home.
its fun and challenging. does not need to be played competitively in case the pressure it too much on the younger kids. see apple app version for game ideas.
PS. gave it three stars for durability because its just as durable as any other card game.
A game that plays tricks with your eyes - Jun 28, 2010
I played this game after it was introduced to me a couple years ago. It is a game where you have to make a set of three cards that have different colors, shapes, number, and fill types by finding three cards that have three of these distinct characteristics. After you stare at all those shapes for a while, your eyes start playing tricks on you. You think you see one when in fact it is not.
I registered for this for my wedding and bought it with gift cards I had received. Now that I have it, my husband and I play all the time. Great for people that like chance and challenge, but if you can put this in front of a bunch of kids in a classroom (as I did), it keeps the room quiet for a long time.
GRANDDAUGHTER LOVES IT!!!!!!! - Jun 25, 2010
Great game for learning disabled kids.Makes them think about organizing things. As a family we all have fun with this game.
Great game - Jun 16, 2010
My mother bought this game for my daughter who was 5 at the time. She was really good at it from the start, it took me a little longer. It is a great game to play to keep the mind sharp and challenge it. My daughter is 7 now and we still enjoy this game. I highly recommend for ages 5 to 100 :)
Set - does a brain good - Jun 08, 2010
A great pastime, or a great educational tool. First graders can play, college students are still enthralled. A worthy taste to acquire.
love this card game! - May 30, 2010
In my clssroom we start our day with "mind games" which help my students get their brain "thinking outside the box" . This game is addictive! We all love the challenge this game offers as well as the fact that it requires fast lateral thinking. The player also has to keep in mind that if he/she calls out a "set" and is wrong, they will lose points even before earning any! When keeping score, the kids are even practicing positive/negative adding of numbers!
I play this with kids as young as kindergarteners.
This game is not fun - May 19, 2010
Yeah, spending time staring at cards until your brain hurts. It's not fun. I can't imagine making your kids do this. You are terrible parents if you buy this for your children.
Great game, don't buy if you have iPhone - May 10, 2010
Great game. I bought it for my daughter - 6. Surprised to see that she understood the game in a minute and started playing. If you have an iPhone or an equivalent, don't waste your money on this. Buy the application for only fraction of the price and hassle free playing. With the app, you do not have the hassle of laying the cards, etc. I bought this, but hardly used it. I discovered the iPhone app and now play on it.
No "durable plastic carrying case" - Apr 27, 2010
Love the game, but was very disappointed that this one doesn't include the nice "durable plastic carrying case" that my friend has.
Edit: I just found out that 1 of the 3 boxes I received DOES have the plastic carrying case. I guess it just depends on which one you get...
Great game but no plastic carrying case as advertised in description - Apr 01, 2010
This is the classic SET game. You get the cards and instruction book. However, the product description says it includes a durable plastic carrying case when in fact it is just a flimsy plastic tray. My friend's SET game comes in a real carrying case with plastic top, not this tray. Honestly I am just going to throw the tray out and keep the cards together with a rubber band. Other than this description inaccuracy, the cards are great and I know I am going to have a lot of fun playing.
Premium Pattern Recognition - Mar 21, 2010
What a fun game! Easy to learn and easy to play. It is great for teaching pattern recognition and no matter how many times you play, it is always a challenge.
Fun brain exercise for all ages - My family loves this game! - Mar 18, 2010
Our family loves this game more than any other game we've played together. Our 4-year-old plays right along with the rest of us. It is an engaging exercise in pattern matching that provides equal footing for players of all ages (ages 4-5 and up).
Our seven-year old can win this game against her elders without any "special rules" or other such condescensions. Usually games that young children can realistically play and win are based on chance and don't involve much thinking.
This game is based on the ability to mentally organize four categories and is quick and easy to learn, without waiting turns and without many rules to learn. These features also make it very easy to play with people who have never played it before. There is not much they need to know before starting the game. (Hint: study the examples on the box to jump-start your understanding.)
An excellent game, just excellent!
Great game - Feb 10, 2010
At first this game seemed a little confusing to play, but once we figured out what a "set" was, it was AWESOME!!! It does get frustrating at times, since the sets are not always easy to see.....then again, thats the fun of it. My 15 year old daughter seems to have a good eye for the sets and beats us everytime!!! Def a lot of fun for the whole family....all ages.
Not as fun as we thought - Feb 03, 2010
Our adult friends LOVE this game and encouraged me to buy it for my kids for Christmas. It has been played 2 times and that has been by me and a couple of my children. Our kids do not choose to play this game. It is great and gets you to thinking.
I bought for my daughter but use it more than she does! - Feb 02, 2010
I bought this for my 7 year old and she took one look at it and said- we have that at school. I would describe this when played alone as more of a puzzle rather than a game. I ended up using it myself and am addicted! It is a great way to take a break from the daily grind. The NYtimes.com has a free online version which they change daily. It is a great way to mix fun and using your brain at the same time.
Fun for all ages - Feb 01, 2010
This game is great fun for the whole family. The more you play, the better (quicker) you can pick out sets, but what we really like is that there is no particular advantage based on age or size.
We play as a family and my 9 year old daughter has just as much opportunity and likelihood to win as I do.
The more often you play, you will develop an advantage over those who play less frequently.
This game is fun and challenging for everyone.
It's an educational learning tool, not a game - Jan 30, 2010
Bought this game based on reviews on this site. We love Euchre and other strategy card games. We played this once and it was so boring....it reminded of me of doing flash cards with my kids. It's educational, yes. Great for helping kids learn patterns and visual discrimination BUT it's not for a group of adults and teens having a fun evening. It sits in a drawer waiting to use with grandchildren when they're about 8.
Family fun - Jan 17, 2010
I bought Set Game as a Christmas present for my husband and since that day our whole family has spent many fun hours playing. At first we had a little trouble figuring out exactly what is a set and what isn't, but the rules are very clear and include examples of sets and non-sets. The product description and other customer reviews helped in my decision to purchase the game, but also knowing that the rules are both in English and Spanish (my husband is Spanish, and we live in Spain). Our kids (aged 6 and 12) absolutely LOVE the game and always want to play. Our 12-year old usually wins.
Entire Family Fun - Jan 01, 2010
We had this game some years ago, but the cards got lost. It was fun to re-discover how much fun this game is. I particularly like that people of many different ages can play together and have a pretty equal shot at winning. I like that there is no chance and only skill involved in this game.
Game the entire family can play - Dec 31, 2009
From elementary school-aged children on up, everyone in our family loves this game. Easy to play and understand, yet challenging. Great family game.
A great thinking game for the whole family - Dec 29, 2009
The rules of the game are quickly learned. The game focuses on logical thinking and looking for patterns. It's unlike any other game I've ever played. As a result, everyone...kids and adults...have a good shot at finding "sets" (the object of the game). My son has been playing with my wife and me since he was around 6 or 7 years old.
If you find that the game is a bit challenging, you can simplify it by using only part of the deck (for example, just the green cards). As players develop a better understanding of the game, it's easy to add the rest of the deck and play by the standard rules.
Get this game, and have fun thinking!
A Must Have Game - Dec 28, 2009
Like Apples to Apples, SET, a Game of Visual Perception, is appealing to many ages. The directions are difficult to grasp at first, but as you follow the instructions and learn to play the game with the "simple" set, the object of the game grows clear. It was successful on Christmas Day for the 9 year old all the way up to Granny and Grampy. We could play in sets of 2 to 6 and anything in between. It can be fast or slow depending on the players. What I liked best of all is that everyone is working toward the same goal and so when someone finds a "set" the other players often respond with encouraging words and admiration.
An added benefit are the skills associated with visual perception and brain development. Can't help thinking it will help my kids with the SAT/ACT someday or at least increase the likelihood of passing geometry!
Great intergenerational toy, fun for all ages and genders. - Dec 21, 2009
This game has been around for quite some time. When I introduced it to my children and their families I was surprised to find that my grandson's therapist used the cards in his vision therapy. Any child or adult above the age of 5 can play and enjoy competively. No time limit and play encourages cooperation.
very fun, even my then 4 year old can play competitively - Dec 20, 2009
It is a fun game, it is kind of interesting to see even my then 4 year old can play competitively. You can even play on line when you go to their official site.
